Chapter 08 – Performance Based Contracts Study Group Topics & Questions

Reading retention tip: review the following questions BEFORE reading this chapter. Use your journal to capture answers while you read.

  1. When do performance based contracts help or hinder success?
  2. What are the strengths and weaknesses of performance based contracts?
  3. As a group, brainstorm 10 roadblocks to creating a performance based contract as well as solutions to dissolving those roadblocks.
  4. Share stories on how you plan to integrate regular rewards in any contract, as well as life in general. Is it easy or difficult to create or accept a reward? If difficult, why?
  5. As a group, create a performance based contract for how your group will celebrate the completion of your work together.

  1. When do performance based contracts help or hinder success? When the agreed upon behavior (performance) is no longer perceived by both parties as a Win. The Win-Win is not there anymore and the contract needs to either be re-evaluated or peacefully dissolved.

    1. Bingo! Smart souls recognize all contracts have a ‘sell-by’ date. Every contract needs regular reviews to explore what’s working, what’s broken, what’s salvageable as well as when it’s time to retire the contract. I’ve come to LOVE an awareness of how the more detached I am from expectations balanced with a dedication to co-create mutually beneficial contracts – the more easy life is.
